A graduate of Merrimack College, Charles Balanoff has served as the financial consultant and president of ElderCare Advantage in Groveland, Massachusetts, since 1990. Committed to supporting people in need, Charles Balanoff also contributes to charities, like the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Established in 1913, the American Cancer Society is dedicated to helping people who have been diagnosed with cancer and to finding a cure for the disease. Built on a foundation of advocacy, education, and research, the nonprofit organization has millions of volunteers and supporters across the world. In addition to donating time or money, people can support ACS through a number of different events and activities throughout the year.

One of the American Cancer Society’s main events is Coaches vs. Cancer. A partnership between the National Association of Basketball Coaches and ACS, Coaches vs. Cancer raises awareness and funds for cancer prevention, detection, and lifestyle resources. Not only does the program host the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, but it also hosts Suits and Sneakers Awareness Week, when coaches wear sneakers with their suits to promote physical activity and nutrition and to raise awareness. Over the years, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised nearly $90 million to combat and cure the disease. Other events, like the Relay for Life and Relay Recess, help communities and children raise money to support the organization’s efforts.
